Develop clean energy and strive for a bright future
Hydropower and wind power are clean, renewable energy and the ideal choice for sustainable energy development. China possesses plenty of hydropower and wind power resources. The theoretic water potentials in mainland China is 694,000 MW, technically developable installed capacity is 542,000 MW, economically developable installed capacity is 402,000 MW, all of which are ranked first in the world. Based on the data obtained, 10m above ground surface in the air, the gross reserve of wind power resources in China is estimated at about 4,350,000 MW, and the technically developable installed capacity about 298,000 MW. The technically developable installed capacity is estimated at about 1,000,000 MW, if wind potential in the offshore is included. And it will be 2,000,000 MW when wind potentials 50m above the ground and the offshore in the air are included.
There is a broad prospect for hydropower and wind power development in China. By the end of 2007, the installed capacity of hydropower projects and wind farms had reached 145,000 MW and 6,020 MW respectively. According to the development planning, the installed capacity of hydropower projects and wind power farms will reach 350,000 MW and 40,000 MW respectively by 2020.
